Reflecting on Western standards of beauty shown in the media, my collection has been based on the hidden and internal struggles of portrayal, reflecting on the under-representation of scoliosis in the media. With the expansion of social media there has been an influx of fads and trends which has pushed society’s outlook on bodies to become a one size fits all, creating inaccurate reflections and standards of how society views us through a daily lens. Although platforms such as Instagram and TikTok highlight the luxury’s in an individual's life, it often fails to represent internal struggles of self identity and image, embracing only the greater parts of life.

Reflecting on my own life experiences with scoliosis, it is often something I have hidden, creating my own facade of hiding my own interpersonal struggles. My collection sheds lights on this, representing it in a way of beauty, embracing real life experiences that are under portrayed in the media. My pieces will be combined with soft curves, tailoring techniques, and dark and light colours that create a representation of beauty, power and struggles, reflected through my designs to communicate and highlight scoliosis as a real life experience, curated to the female body as a representation of my experience. Metal embellishments will be added to create a mechanical representation of the body itself.
