ORIENTAL OBSCURITIES
‘Oriental Obscurities’ is a conceptual collection derived from a surrealist perspective where things might not always be what they seem. The words obscure from the titled collection defines uncertainty and unknown. A heavy essence of narrative is portrayed through the garments capturing the motive to think freely and escape from confines and norms that are present. A diverse serenity of western and oriental views inflicted a difficult beginning but developed a skin that would later help fulfil those ideas. The collection phases visual references from Oriental architecture in terms of silhouette and repetition, methods of sustainable practices and monochromatic colours that assist in refining the idea of this concept. A miscellaneous spread of garments is presented with different applications of material property and techniques, however each piece from this collection shares a strong contrast of visual hierarchy and unity. A fond lover of abstract designs and surrealism, the collection ties back to having garments that are beyond imagination, something weird and wacky but also having such a beautiful nature deep within.
