DARK FEM

Throughout history women have struggled for autonomy over their own bodies. The recent overturning of legislation put in place to protect women’s rights in countries such as the United States and Poland has sparked outrage, with imagery of the show “The Handmaid’s Tale” circulating online as parallels are being drawn between current events and the fictional dystopia where women are viewed as objects and required to completely cover their bodies.

For my capsule collection I want to create garments that are provocative, celebrating individual expression and defying societal expectations, taking inspiration from women’s lingerie, nightwear and corsetry. Each garment will include elements of sheer silk georgette and lace fabrics with the colour black being consistent throughout the collection to channel dark feminine and create a balance between sensuality and empowerment. Dark denim will also be prominent throughout the collection, being used for the corsets to symbolise strength as it is a strong and sturdy fabric.
