CONSUMING CONSEQUENCES.

As our closets grow bigger and fast fashion advertisements get shoved down our throats, how might we convey both the environmental and social impact through form hugging garments and suffocating coverage. Consuming Consequences belongs in the conceptual realm of fashion with garments that provide a constricting dystopian future, intertwined with the roots of hope and salvation.

To push this idea, I want the wearer to feel slightly uncomfortable, with skin tight dresses and skirts, and full extremity coverage to convey a sluggish and smothering effect upon the wearer. the sensation one would get if ivy and wisteria were climbing up your appendages till you become one with nature. Slow and unnerving. To provide hope for our future these confining garments mimic the beauty of the earth in shades of green and tan while still maintaining a dark reminder of our consequences.

Peggy Blum in 2021 states, “as a society, we consume 400% more clothing today than we did just 20 years ago.” With all these choices we are in-turn given less freedom. Can we slow down our climbing greed before we cement our infernal future. Consuming Consequences : A Cautionary Tale.
