ECHOES OF EARTH.
Echoes of Earth is a concept-led collection inspired by elements of nature that are seen, lost and unappreciated in our manufactured world. It looks to encapsulate the beauty of natural systems and their parallels in fashion design, offering a renewed perspective on how deeply nature is embedded in human creation.
Nature exists not only in landscapes but within architecture, technological systems, and design. Influenced by biomimicry, the garments respond to nature’s inherent logic solving design problems through structures, forms and processes drawn from the natural world (Verbrugghe, Rubinacci, and Khan 2023). At the same time, biophilic design grounds the work in our biological need to connect with nature emotionally and physically (Heerwagen 2019).
The collection incorporates metal hardware, natural fabrics, and laser-etched patterns to explore the tension and coexistence between organic and industrial. The leather, hidden yet seeping out from beneath the surface, symbolises the persistence of nature always present, even in artificial systems.
Framed by systems thinking, the work embraces fashion as an interconnected process one that reflects nature’s intelligence and potential for balance (Fletcher and Tham 2019). It invites a future where fashion honours the forms and systems that sustain us.
