DYSMORPHIA.

The perception of the human body and its ‘ideal’ form has been construed into something debilitating. As a personal struggle within a household embedded in Chinese culture, in which the perfect body standard is painfully pushed, it is perceived that the only way to be beautiful is to be thin and curve-less.

The word dysmorphia describes the abnormality of particular shapes and forms of the body and defines this collection through the creation of silhouettes that are so heavily undesirable within the Chinese beauty standard. This collection uses traditional Chinese colours and silk art that are deemed beautiful and juxtaposes this against forms and structures of garments that illusion the shape of the human body into something that is no longer ‘idealistic’. The outcome is something that, although goes against all that the beauty standard is, is still beautiful and alluring therefore disillusioning what type of body can be considered beautiful.
